Yemen: Over 140 killed between Houthi rebels and soldiers in clashes for Marib

More than 140 rebels and pro-government troops have been killed this week as fighting intensifies for Yemen’s strategic northern city of Marib, military and medical sources told AFP Friday.

At least 51 loyalists were killed in the past four days, most of them in clashes in the province of Shabwa and the neighbouring governorate of Marib, multiple military sources said.

Turkey: Turkish forces kill 11 People’s Protection Units (YPG) members in northern Syria

Turkish security forces killed 11 members of the Syrian Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) in northern Syria, the country’s Defense Ministry said on Thursday.

Turkish commandos killed the YPG fighters after they “attempted to infiltrate and attack, aiming to disrupt the security and peace environment” in Turkey’s Operation Peace Spring zone, the ministry tweeted.

Colombia: 5 soldiers killed in Gulf Clan cartel attack

Five soldiers were killed in northwestern Colombia in an attack blamed on the Gulf Clan, the country’s most powerful narco trafficking cartel, officials said on Tuesday (Wednesday in Manila).

The soldiers were attacked with “explosive artifacts by presumed members… of the Gulf Clan” while patrolling in a vehicle in a coca leaf-growing region of the Cordoba department, the army said in a statement.

Sudan: Sudan says coup d’etat thwarted, accuses Omar al-Bashir loyalists

Sudanese authorities said they had foiled an attempted coup on Tuesday, accusing plotters loyal to ousted president Omar al-Bashir of a failed bid to derail the revolution that removed him from power in 2019 and ushered in a transition to democracy.

Sudan’s military said 21 officers and a number of soldiers had been detained in connection to the coup attempt, and a search continued for others. All affected locations under army control, it said.

Burma-Myanmar: Residents of a town in Chin State flee military junta artillery barrage

The entire population of the mountaintop town of Thantlang in Chin State has fled after being bombarded by Myanmar junta forces during an intense clash with civilian resistance forces on the weekend.

Virtually the entire population of around 8,000 residents have already left the town, with just a few dozen people including pastors and senior citizens remaining, according to Thantlang Placement Affair Committee-IDPs Help (TPAC-IDPs), which is assisting the fleeing residents.
