The United States military has launched dozens of airstrikes against targets in Syria and Iraq in the first retaliation for a drone attack that killed three soldiers at a remote US base in Jordan.
“This afternoon, at my direction, US military forces struck targets at facilities in Iraq and Syria that the IRGC and affiliated militia use to attack US forces,” US President Joe Biden said in a statement on Friday, referring to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC).

The Arakan Army (AA), a Myanmar ethnic minority rebel group, has claimed taking control of a port town in a blow to the country’s military junta.
The armed group seized control of the town after more than two months of intense clashes with junta troops, they said late Wednesday, adding that it “completely controlled” Pauktaw, a town of 20,000 people close to a crucial deepwater port in the capital of western Rakhine state.

The Russian Defense Ministry announced on Sunday that its forces have taken control of the village of Krokhmalne in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region. A Ukrainian military spokesman subsequently confirmed that Kyiv’s forces had withdrawn from the area, marking a small but noteworthy advance for Russian forces.
The latest territorial gain follows a similar claim made on Thursday by the Russian Defense Ministry, stating that its forces had seized control of the settlement named Vesele in Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk region. Myanmar’s ruling military confirmed on Friday that it had agreed to a “temporary ceasefire” with an alliance of ethnic minority armies at a China-mediated meeting.
“We have plans to further discuss and strengthen the ceasefire agreement,” junta spokesperson Zaw Min Tun told reporters.
